Sterling Wilmer
Miss Montgomery County
Sterling is a dedicated advocate for mental health and healthcare equity and is currently a GWU Health Policy and Media Fellow pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice at Johns Hopkins. Sterling is and avid reader, traveler and runner who had the privilege to be a Girls On The Run Montgomery County coach during her reign. She is also the founder of the 'Holistic Hands' initiative, which addresses mental health stigma and accessibility in her community. Sterling has used her year of service at MAO to push forth her message of community centered mental health through her TEDXTalk and collaborate with organizations like, Community Bridges, Montgomery County NAMI and the Mental Health First Aide Association of Maryland to give out free resources, speak on podcasts and panels as well as run mental health workshops. With her background in nursing and passion for public service, she is committed to creating lasting change in her community and will do so on her next adventure as she continues to push her Hands Of the Future Scholarship and launches a mental health buddy application that she has created in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins PAVA Center for Innovation called Helping Hands AI!
Piya Scielzo
Miss Montgomery County’s Teen
Piya is a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying business and entrepreneurship. She is an avid neurodiversity advocate and started her CSI, Think Differently, to increase education and awareness on the topic. Piya loves to dance and play the harp. During her year as Miss Montgomery County’s Teen, she’s had the opportunity to speak in front of the Maryland State Board of Education, receive a proclamation from Governor Wes Moore, meet with government officials, and much more!
Jenny Nguyen
Miss Bethesda
Jenny is the Program Specialist for Southeast Asia at the U.S. Institute of Peace, where she plays a key role in advancing peacebuilding initiatives in the region. Through her Community Service Initiative, Mentorship: Sailing to Success, she collaborates with organizations and government leaders to champion mentorship through awareness, advocacy, and action. Competing in the Miss Maryland Scholarship Competition for the first time in 2024, Jenny earned a Preliminary Fitness Award and placed as second runner-up to Miss Maryland. She is a proud daughter of Vietnamese immigrants, a passionate world traveler, and a recipient of the prestigious President’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Blakely Pfaff
Miss Bethesda’s Teen
Blakely is a 16 year old Junior who currently attends Rockville High School, where she studies in the IB Career Pathways Program through Broadcast Journalism. Blakely is President of the Choral Department, the Director of Vocal Point Acapella and a valued member of the Varsity Poms team. Being Miss Bethesdas Teen is so meaningful to Blakely as it opens the door to so many service opportunities in her community. She has taken these opportunities head on by Directing the Kindness Plays at her local elementary school, taking a lead role in the planning and advertising of the Montgomery County Girls Summit by advertising the event on live television as well as planning and participating in the fashion show, and so much more to come!
Melissa Sexton
Miss Silver Spring
Melissa is a recent Master of Science in Nursing graduate of Johns Hopkins University. Inspired by her patient experiences, she leads “Seeing The Invisible”, which offers advocacy, education, and support services to individuals experiencing rare diseases. During her year of service, she wrote 5 proclamations, volunteered with countless organizations, coordinated the lighting up of the Baltimore City Hall, and spoke to members on Capitol Hill. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, vegan baking and her two rescue cats!
Ashleigh Becraft
Miss Silver Spring’s Teen
Ashleigh is a sophomore at Stevenson University, where Ashleigh is pursuing a dual focus in fashion design and fashion merchandising. Her passion for fashion is complemented by her commitment to mental health awareness through her community service initiative, "Mind Over Matter." This program aims to highlight the vital connection between mental and physical well-being, emphasizing that both are crucial for a healthy lifestyle. Through workshops and outreach, she strives to educate others on how community service can enhance personal wellness and foster connections within our communities and beyond. She believes that fashion can be a powerful tool for self-expression and confidence, which ties back into our overall mental health. By integrating her studies with community service, she hopes to make a meaningful impact both in the fashion industry and in her community.
